Agricultural photography has been a passion of Dean’s for many years, dating back to the early 1990s when he began shooting for Agri News while working as a photojournalist for the Rochester Post-Bulletin in his hometown of Rochester, Minnesota. In the beginning he had little interest in documenting farm life, but over time he developed a great appreciation and connection to the people, the culture and the work ethic. In 2004 Dean published a photography book, titled “Life on the Farm; A Pictorial Journey of Minnesota’s Farmland and it’s People.”
Selections of Dean’s farming images have been featured in exhibits around the state, including the Rochester Art Center and Bloomington Art Center. His farming and agricultural photography has been featured nationwide in advertisements, brochures, award-winning annual reports, business plans and proposals, marketing brochures and a wide variety of publications, including “Successful Farming” magazine. Minnesota Corn Growers Association and SEMA Implement are also regular clients of Dean’s.
Dean’s images capture the simple pleasures and the complexities that are all too familiar to today’s farmers. With nature’s pristine majesty as a backdrop, Dean’s photographs record the mysterious power that lures people to the land. His photographs chronicle the men, women, children and animals who call the countryside home. From his photo book of farm life in Minnesota to his plethora of stock photos, Dean’s love of the land and the people who live there is evident.
