Earlier this month I was hired to drive down to Garner, Iowa, to photograph a lawyer for a story on retiring lawyers in rural areas for Legal Newswire Law 360 out of New York City. As a longtime editorial and corporate photographer here in Minnesota, I do a lot of shoots like this where a client needs a couple of nice environmental portraits, as well as some more candid, documentary-style, working shots. I’ve specialized in this sort of work for 37 years now, so this was right in my wheelhouse. Mr. Philip Garland turned out to be a pleasure to photograph and talk with and the shoot was smooth and successful. I even got him and his law partner to step outside in the frigid temps to get something that showed the small rural town they are located in.
