Over the weekend I got to do a fashion shoot with the beautiful Darion Leigh. As a commercial and corporate photographer in Minnesota I rarely get to take part in fashion photography. And before I was actually working as a professional photographer it’s what I did the most of. Photographing friends and girlfriends is how I honed my craft back in the 80s and 90s.
I met Darion while doing a commercial photography shoot at Jackpot Junction in Western, Minnesota. She was actually an employee at the Caribou Coffee within the casino and ended-up being one of our models for that two-day shoot. And she was not only awesome to work with, but incredibly photogenic! So when she started considering doing more modeling I was happy to help her out.
We’d been trying to get together for a few months and this past weekend we finally made it happen. We started the day at the incredibly awesome contemporary AirBNB owned by my friend, Jodi Frisk. And she hooked us up with her friend, Samantha Erickson, who has a business called, Everyday Mae, which provides personal and professional styling services for photoshoots of all variety (engagement, family, branding, etc.) as well as wardrobe consultation and organization—all with a focus on representing your most authentic self. Samantha hooked us up with some amazing clothes from her own wardrobe, as well as from Primp Boutique in downtown Rochester, who were kind enough to loan her a pile of awesome outfits for out shoot!
After spending a few hours shooting at the Frisky Little House we headed over to Forager Brewery where we shot in Drift Dough coffee shop, since they were closed and the space was available. And boy, did it workout awesome as you can see by the photos! It was the perfect setting that had some nice, soft, light coming through the windows. And the outfit she had picked out couldn’t have worked better with the colors!
