Late last week I spent a couple of hours in Lakeville, Minnesota—a suburb of Minneapolis—photographing a fiber-optic drilling project for Ellingson Companies. As an industrial photographer here in Minnesota I get to shoot all sorts of interesting projects like this. It’s always fascinating to me to watch and learn how these things are done. This project consisted of drilling under roads, sidewalks and medians, then pulling through the pipe that would house the fiberoptic cables used for lightning fast internet, cable and phone services. Ellingson Companies is a third-generation, family-owned, company based out of West Concord, Minnesota, that specializes in agricultural water management (drain tile), underground utilities, commercial and industrial infrastructure, and even oil pipeline trenchless drilling.
